About IGNOU Course Wise Previous Year Question Papers
IGNOU Previous Year Question Papers are past Term-End Examination papers that help students understand the exam pattern, important topics, and question types for each course. These papers are available for both June and December TEE sessions.
Practising with previous year papers is one of the most effective preparation strategies for IGNOU Term-End Examinations. They give students a clear idea of the marking scheme and the depth of answers expected by the examiner.
How IGNOU Previous Year Question Papers Help in Exam Preparation
IGNOU Term-End Examinations follow a predictable structure for each course. By studying previous year question papers, students can identify which topics are repeatedly asked, how many marks are allocated to each section, and what level of detail is expected in answers.
Each course paper is divided into sections with different question types — long answer, short answer, and objective. Previous year papers reveal the weightage of each section, which helps students allocate their preparation time more efficiently. For example, if long answer questions consistently carry 60% of the marks in a course, a student should prioritise those topics in their study material.
Previous year papers also help students practice time management. IGNOU exams are typically three hours long. Attempting a full previous year paper under timed conditions helps identify whether you can comfortably complete the paper within the allotted time or need to improve your writing speed and answer structuring.
Another important use of previous year papers is spotting recurring questions. IGNOU examiners often repeat or slightly rephrase questions from earlier sessions. Studying 3 to 5 years of papers can reveal a consistent bank of likely questions, which is especially useful for students with limited preparation time.
Exam Preparation Strategy Using Previous Year Papers
Using previous year question papers strategically can significantly improve your TEE performance. Follow these steps for the best results:
- Download question papers for your registered courses from this page or from ignou.ac.in.
- Start with the most recent paper to understand the current exam pattern and question style.
- Attempt the paper under exam conditions — closed book, 3-hour time limit.
- Compare your answers with the relevant blocks and units in your IGNOU study material.
- Identify topics where your answers are weak or incomplete and revise those blocks.
- Repeat with papers from 3 to 5 previous years to identify frequently asked questions.
- Prepare model answers for recurring questions in your own words — this is the most efficient way to prepare for IGNOU exams.
- Do not memorise answers word for word — IGNOU examiners value original expression and understanding.
TEE Exam Pattern at IGNOU
IGNOU Term-End Examinations are conducted twice a year — in June for the January session and in December for the July session. Each exam is typically 3 hours long and carries 75 marks, which are combined with your assignment marks of 25 to give the final 100-mark score. Students must score at least 35% in the TEE to pass, in addition to scoring at least 50% in the assignment.
Check your exam hall ticket and schedule on the official IGNOU portal before the exam. Also check your assignment submission status at isms.ignou.ac.in to confirm your TEE eligibility.
