About IGNOU Course Wise Assignments
IGNOU Course Wise Assignments are formal academic tasks issued for every individual subject a student is registered in during the current session. Every student enrolled in any certificate, diploma, or degree programme must submit one assignment per registered course.
Submitting assignments is a mandatory prerequisite for eligibility in the Term-End Examination (TEE). Assignments contribute 25% to the final grade for each course and must be submitted before the session deadline.
How IGNOU Course Wise Assignments Work
IGNOU follows a continuous evaluation system where assignments form a core part of a student’s academic progress. Unlike traditional universities that rely solely on a final examination, IGNOU gives equal importance to the Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) submitted during the session.
Each assignment is released by IGNOU for a specific academic session — January to June or July to December. The assignment question paper is available on the official IGNOU website and on this page. Students must answer the questions in their own handwriting, compile the responses, and submit the completed assignment booklet to their allotted Study Centre.
The assignment is evaluated by the course tutor at the Study Centre. A score out of 100 is awarded, which is then scaled to 25 marks contributing to the final grade. Students must score at least 50% in the assignment to be eligible to appear in the Term-End Examination for that course.
It is important to note that assignments are session-specific. An assignment submitted late or for the wrong session may not be accepted. Always verify the submission deadline on the official IGNOU portal before submitting.
Key Tips for Completing IGNOU Assignments
- Write answers in your own words — do not copy directly from the study material.
- Follow the word limit mentioned for each question in the assignment booklet.
- Use a blue or black ballpoint pen on A4 size paper.
- Write your Enrollment Number, Programme Code, Course Code and Study Centre Code clearly on the cover page.
- Download the official assignment cover page from ignoued.com/ignou-assignment-front-page-cover-page/.
- Keep a photocopy of your completed assignment before submitting the original.
- Always collect an acknowledgement receipt from your Study Centre after submission.
- Check your submission status online at isms.ignou.ac.in within 2 to 4 weeks of submission.
Assignment Submission Deadlines
IGNOU sets strict deadlines for assignment submission each session. Missing the deadline results in ineligibility to appear in the Term-End Examination for that course. The general deadlines are as follows:
- July Session: Submit by 31st October.
- January Session: Submit by 30th April.
Always verify the exact deadline on the official IGNOU website as dates may vary for certain programmes. If you miss the deadline, you will need to resubmit the assignment in the next session before you can appear in the examination.
Difference Between Course Code and Programme Code
A Programme Code refers to the overall degree or certificate you are pursuing such as BCA or MBA. A Course Code refers to individual subjects within that programme such as BEVAE-181 or BCOC-131. This page is organised by course codes — if you want programme level assignment information visit the IGNOU Programme Wise Assignments page.
