About IGNOU CFL – Certificate in French Language

The Certificate in French Language programme helps learners develop basic communication skills and cultural understanding of the French-speaking world. Completing and submitting the prescribed assignments is a mandatory requirement for every student who wishes to appear in the Term End Examinations. Without successful submission, you will not be allowed to sit for the final theory papers at your exam centre.

IGNOU CFL Assignments Overview

In the IGNOU system, the IGNOU CFL Assignments carry a significant weightage of 30% toward your final grade or division. The remaining 70% weightage comes from the Term End Examination (TEE) conducted twice a year. Every course within the Certificate in French Language programme has a specific Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) that students must solve. These tasks are designed to test your understanding of the course material provided by the university. You must secure the minimum passing marks in these assignments to be declared successful in the programme.

IGNOU follows two academic cycles: the January session and the July session. For the 2026 academic year, students must ensure they are working on the assignment set specifically released for their current session. Typically, assignments remain valid for one full year or two consecutive TEE cycles. If a student fails to submit their work within the given deadline for 2026, they will have to download the fresh set of questions released for the next session and submit those instead. Always check the validity date printed on the first page of your assignment PDF.

Every response you write must be original and handwritten by you. IGNOU has a very strict policy against plagiarism, which means you should not copy answers directly from your textbooks or from other students. Plagiarism can lead to the cancellation of your assignment marks or even further disciplinary action. Your Study Centre coordinator will evaluate your handwritten sheets and award marks based on your clarity, accuracy, and how well you have understood the French grammar and vocabulary taught in the modules.

How to Submit IGNOU CFL Assignments

To submit your IGNOU CFL Assignments, you must first write down all the answers neatly on A4 size paper. It is highly recommended to use ruled or plain white paper and write only on one side to maintain neatness. Every assignment must have a proper cover page that includes your full name, enrollment number, programme code (CFL), course code, and your Study Centre code. Once all answers are written, arrange the sheets in the correct sequence according to the question paper and staple or tie them securely together.

Most students are required to submit their physical handwritten files directly at their allotted Study Centre. However, some Regional Centres also provide an online submission facility through a Google Form or a dedicated portal. After submitting your work, always remember to collect a submission receipt from the centre staff. This receipt is your only proof of submission in case your marks are not updated on the IGNOU official website later. You can track your marks in the “Assignment Status” section of the IGNOU website after a few months of submission.

For students appearing in the June TEE 2026, the submission deadline is usually in March or April. For those appearing in the December TEE 2026, the deadline is generally in September or October. These dates are often extended by the university, but it is always safer to submit well before the last date to avoid any last-minute rush or technical issues at the study centres.

How to Prepare IGNOU CFL Assignments

To score high marks, you should read the questions very carefully and refer to your Self Learning Material (SLM) provided by the School of Foreign Languages. Make sure your French spellings and grammar are correct, and try to express the answers in your own words rather than copying from the book.

For Handwritten (Offline) Submission:

  • Write answers clearly in your own handwriting on A4 size paper
  • Attach the IGNOU Assignment Cover Page at the front
  • Arrange answer sheets in the correct order of questions
  • Tag or punch and bind all pages together before submission
  • Submit at your assigned Study Centre before the deadline

For Online Submission:

  • Write answers clearly in your own handwriting on A4 size paper
  • Attach the IGNOU Assignment Cover Page at the front
  • Scan all pages clearly — every page must be fully readable
  • Merge all scanned pages into a single PDF file
  • Upload the PDF via your Regional Centre’s official submission link

Common Mistakes to Avoid:

  • Do not copy answers directly from the study material word for word
  • Do not ignore the prescribed word limits for each question
  • Avoid using multiple ink colours or pencil
  • Do not submit printed assignments unless specifically permitted by IGNOU
