About IGNOU MAEC – Master of Arts (Economics)
This post-graduate course provides a deep understanding of economic theories, quantitative methods, and Indian economic policy to help students build a career in research or public service. Mastering the core subjects requires consistent effort, and completing your coursework is the first step toward academic success. Since assignments are a mandatory part of the evaluation, submitting them on time is absolutely critical for clearing the Term End Examination and maintaining your academic record.
IGNOU MAEC Assignments Overview
In the Master of Arts (Economics) programme, assignments carry a significant 30% weightage toward your final grade in each course. To be eligible for the Term End Examination (TEE), you must submit all required assignments for your registered courses. These are officially known as Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA) and serve as a continuous evaluation tool. For every course code in the Master of Arts (Economics) curriculum, you are required to submit exactly one comprehensive assignment. Failing to submit these will result in an “Incomplete” status on your grade card, even if you pass the theory exams.
The university follows two academic cycles: the January session and the July session. If you are enrolled for the 2026 academic year, you must ensure you are working on the question paper specifically valid for your session. Generally, the validity of an assignment lasts for two TEE cycles, but students are always advised to use the latest version available. If a student misses the submission deadline for their current session, they must download the fresh assignment for the next session and resubmit it to stay eligible for exams.
IGNOU maintains a very strict policy regarding the authenticity of student work, requiring all submissions to be original and handwritten. Plagiarism, which means copying answers directly from someone else or from the internet, can lead to the rejection of your work or even disciplinary action. Each Master of Arts (Economics) assignment is evaluated by a qualified counselor at your Study Centre. These marks are then forwarded to the Student Evaluation Division at HQ to be reflected in your online grade card. Writing in your own words helps you understand complex economic concepts better while securing higher marks.

How to Submit IGNOU MAEC Assignments
To begin the submission process, you must write your answers by hand on A4 size paper, preferably using ruled sheets for better presentation. Every single assignment needs a dedicated cover page that clearly mentions your enrollment number, name, programme code, and course code. You must also include your Study Centre code and contact details so the evaluator can identify your work easily. Before heading to the submission point, arrange all your answer sheets in the correct sequence as per the question paper.
Depending on the guidelines issued by your Regional Centre, you can perform a physical submission at your Study Centre or an online submission via a dedicated portal. If you submit in person, always ask for a submission receipt as proof of your work, which is vital if your marks are not updated later. To check your status, you can visit the IGNOU portal after a few months to see if your “TMA” marks have been uploaded to your grade card. Online submissions usually require you to scan your handwritten pages and upload them as a single PDF for each course.
Deadlines are very important to keep in mind for the 2026 session to avoid late fees or exam disqualification. For the June TEE, the submission deadline is typically in the months of March or April. For the December TEE, students must usually submit their work during September or October. Since these dates can sometimes be extended by the university, it is wise to keep an eye on official notifications from the headquarters or your specific Regional Centre.
