About IGNOU PGDIPR – PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights
This law-based programme teaches students about the legalities of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and industrial designs to protect creative works. Completing and submitting these assignments is mandatory because they act as a continuous evaluation tool that helps you understand the subject deeply. Without submitting your assignments on time, you will not be allowed to appear for the final examination or complete your diploma.
IGNOU PGDIPR Assignments Overview
For the PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights, assignments are a vital part of the curriculum. These assignments carry a 30% weightage toward your final grade, while the Term End Examination (TEE) carries the remaining 70%. You must submit a separate Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) for every course code in the PGDIPR programme. Generally, there are six courses in this diploma, and each course requires one comprehensive assignment. Successful submission ensures your eligibility for the exams.
IGNOU operates in two main academic cycles: the January session and the July session. Students enrolled in the January session usually submit their work by March or April, while July session students submit by September or October of 2026. It is important to download the assignment question paper that matches your specific admission year. If you fail to submit or pass an assignment in the current cycle, you will have to download the new set of questions for the next session and resubmit them to be eligible for the following TEE.
Every student must provide original, handwritten work for their assignments. Copying directly from textbooks or from other students is considered plagiarism and can lead to your marks being cancelled. The Tutor Marked Assignments are evaluated by experts at your Study Centre. They look for clarity, understanding of legal concepts, and how well you have applied the law to the questions asked. Your final score is then uploaded to the official Grade Card portal once the evaluation process is complete.

How to Submit IGNOU PGDIPR Assignments
To submit your work, you must first write your answers clearly by hand on A4 size ruled or plain paper. Each course assignment must be treated as a separate file. On the cover page, you must clearly mention your name, enrollment number, address, programme code (PGDIPR), course code, and the name of your Study Centre. Make sure all pages are numbered and organized in the correct sequence according to the question paper before you staple or tie them together.
Depending on the instructions from your Regional Centre, you can either submit the physical hard copies at your Study Centre or upload scanned copies online. If you are submitting in person, always ask for a submission receipt from the coordinator and keep it safe until your marks are reflected in the Grade Card. For online submissions, keep the original handwritten sheets with you as the university may ask for them later for verification purposes. You can check your submission status on the official IGNOU website after a few months of submission.
Timing is everything when it comes to IGNOU submissions. For the June TEE 2026 cycle, the deadline is typically the end of March or April. For the December TEE 2026 cycle, the deadline is usually the end of September or October. However, these dates are often extended by the university. You should keep a regular check on the official IGNOU notifications to stay updated on the final dates for your session to avoid any last-minute rush.
How to Prepare IGNOU PGDIPR Assignments
Preparing quality answers is the best way to score high marks. Read each question carefully and use the Self Learning Material (SLM) provided by the School of Law to find the core concepts. Instead of copying the book, try to explain the legal terms and sections in your own simple language to show you have understood the topic.
